Railway sources have informed about the source of the fire outbreak. The train was traveling from Tirupati to Rameswaram and was headed towards Kanyakumari. At that time, pilgrims were using gas cylinders to prepare coffee among themselves. The fire broke out from there and quickly spread. Most passengers were asleep at that time, and upon seeing the fire, many rushed out of the train. However, the elderly passengers were unable to escape.

The Madurai district collector, MS Sangita, stated that the incident in the train compartment has resulted in the death of 10 people. 20 injured individuals have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
